Trackfundx App – the journey so far.
There’s a saying that solutions can only be appreciated when there is a problem, and we dare say this is the story behind the birth of Trackfundx.
We sat down with Precious, founder of Trackfundx as she shared interesting Deets and insights on how Trackfundx came to be.
What inspired Trackfundx?
OK, I think sometime last year I realized that I was spending so much on data, but I couldn’t tell exactly how much I was spending. In a month I could subscribe like two to three times or even more because I was working from home and needed round-the-clock internet access. Because I like to know exactly how much I’m spending on something especially when it seems ridiculous, I started checking my bank transactions to track my data spend.
This was a tedious task as I sometimes forget the bank where the transaction was made. This would mean checking all my accounts and sometimes even when I do find the transaction it only shows me how much data I bought and not how much I spent in the month. Then there was also the difficulty with sorting through your transactions to find a specific one. So, I thought to myself, it would be nice to have an app that helps one categorize their spending, something that could show me just data transactions or other specifics.
This problem took me online and I started researching apps that I could track transactions. I saw a few, but most of them were not Nigerian apps so I couldn’t connect my bank account. I thought about an app that’s automated where I could connect all my bank accounts and then just track, monitor, and categorize my spending; how much I was spending on food, data, utilities, etc.
This was the birth of Trackfundx.
What was the inspiration behind the name Trackfundx?
I had other name ideas before this but the deciding factor was simplicity. I wanted a name that was simple and easy to understand, a name that you hear and you can tell exactly the value you’ll be getting.
I thought about Track your finances, everyone knows what Track and finance means but then finance could be your money, investment, cash flow, and all of that, so I just felt Trackfundx would be better.
I asked a few friends and they said it was sticky, so, Voila! Trackfundx became the name.
What have you learned about yourself while building the app?
First, I had to learn patience.
I don’t consider myself a patient person when I want to get something done. I always feel like it must be right away, but when you do something that involves working with other people, you find yourself constantly reevaluating your timeline because some people need time to process a brief, or they want to figure out something or they just feel like they need time to be in their space to enable them to get it right.
So, I’ve learned to give people time to come up with their own ideas or time to just be creative or time to understand a brief and say, yes this is something I want to do.
That has never been me so working on this project I’ve learned to be that person and I’ve also learned to be very persuasive, getting people to believe in my ideas.
I also learned that there could be so many different views on one thing. I got people asking questions that I had never thought about; how do we see people’s bank accounts, how can you even put people’s bank accounts in one place? These were the questions I was getting but I believed it was possible and I just kept on saying it’s possible and we would figure it out.
Trackfundx taught me a lot of things that are possible and that if you don’t start you won’t know how far you can go. You see problems and you find people who have the solutions, you improve, you refute, and you get better.
Also, as a founder, it’s your vision and your dream, if it would work, it depends on you meaning you must be extra motivated and determined to get things done.
What experience do you hope users can get when they get on the app?
I wanted something user-friendly, something that a 17- or 60-year-old person can use with ease.
To achieve this, we built a seamless app that they can navigate without a guide. If you can use a mobile banking app or WhatsApp, then you can use Trackfundx.
What excites you most about this journey?
The fact that I’m able to provide a solution that is needed now, something that helps the average Nigerian manage their funds. Considering the economic situation of the country, most people have found themselves in a situation where their earnings cannot really cover their day-to-day living expenses and all of that, so knowing what to cut down on, knowing what takes a large chunk of your money is a great way to manage your finances better.
I’m happy Trackfundx can help people make healthy financial decisions and become financially disciplined.
Now to something personal, what do you love to do when you’re not working?
I like to read, and try out new dishes and when I have time I like to travel and see new places.
